Today I had tingly fingers

My first chemotherapy was 6 days ago.  It was a long 9 hour day becuase the nurses did the infusions slowly in case I had an allergic reaction to the Rituximab (the R in R-chop).  I did have an allergic reaction, which the nurses were very prepared for. I have been feeling ok since then.  I don’t feel very hungry, and I didn’t sleep well becuase part of the treatment is five days of steroids (Prednisone, the p in R-chop), but other than that I have felt fine.  Today my fingers were a little tingly.

  1. Your total list of complaints since your first chemo 6 days ago is:
    *being hyper from the steroid pills you took for the first 5 days after chemo;
    * being slightly nauseated for a short while today; and
    * slightly tingly fingers and tongue today.
    So far, a little too good?

  2. Thanks so much for starring this blog Saskya. Now we don’t have to worry about bothering you directly with all our questions about how you are doing.

  3. Thank you for the blog. So sorry we didn’t know you were going through this. We are cheering on your good white blood cells.

  4. What a surprice, Saskya! Of course we want to go through this with you, everybody should learn more about cancer, it’s too common nowadays. I’m very happy to hear that the nurses were slowing down the treatment in the beginning, to see how you react, you are so small and all. Hope they will continue that way!

    1. Ok. I got a bit nervous… could not write my name properly! Now I will go uppstairs and tell Sten what has happened. Lydia and Erik just left back to Sweden, Francine is moving back to her flat here in town after living with us over the Easter. Miss you all and have been thinking a lot about you. We bought a “new” boat about teh size of Andy’s.

      1. Good point there about her nurses. Thank you Saskya for including us in your narrative regarding your lymphoma. We are rooting for you and know that your family is a supportive and loving group. Geoff had aggressive prostate cancer a few years back and is doing well now. Just so you know you are far from alone. And I am sure you do. Sending love.

  5. Lovely idea to make a blog to connect all of us with you and each other and learn how you are doing! Writing is a good way to clear own thoughts and feelings. Take care

  6. Was finally able to access the blog! So glad to be keeping up now, thank you for doing this

  7. Hi Saskya. Today is the first I heard of your condition. I randomly emailed Andy about something else and he gave this link. Debbie and I are hoping the best for you. Losing hair must be a bother, but you looked great with it shaved off. I would have posted that photo straight up. Sending you strength and hoping for a good post-therapy recovery. -Peter

  8. Thank you Saskya for sharing these updates with us. You handle life with a unique honesty and transparency that feels like clean water. And you can totally get away with the Sinead O’Connor-look!
    Sending the sound of waves crashing on a beach to you.

    Aino

  9. I didn’t really shave my head but I cut my hear really close all over sometimes. My conclusion was that some people had a good head for that and some didn’t. I thought mine was pretty good. I’m sure yours is good.
